Ruchika’s Journey: From Heritage Healthcare Windsor to the Finals of Homecare’s Got Talent

Ruchika’s Background and Passion for Singing
Ruchika’s love for singing began at a young age, inspired by watching Hannah Montana on TV. “After coming back from school, I would sing along with the theme song as loud as I could, dreaming of being just like her one day,” she recalls. Her bedroom walls were adorned with posters of Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, and the Jonas Brothers, fuelling her aspirations.
In school, Ruchika was captivated by the choir performances and envisioned herself leading the group. This dream became a reality from 7th grade until she graduated, thanks to the unwavering support of her music teachers. Adrian Brown, one of her mentors, discovered her talent and encouraged her to perform on stage, regardless of any initial setbacks. “He just wanted me to perform, helping me get over my stage fear,” she remembers.
Later, Subin Joy, another music teacher, supported Ruchika by allowing her to perform solos at various school events. Her principal even questioned the judges when she was ranked third in a competition, believing she deserved higher recognition. “From my teachers to my school principal and classmates, all had faith in me that this girl will make it big one day,” Ruchika says with gratitude.
The Competition Journey
Participating in Homecare’s Got Talent has been an amazing experience for Ruchika. “The organisers are so supportive and provide information in time,” she shares. She has met fellow carers with incredible talents, creating a sense of camaraderie and mutual admiration.
“It’s inspiring to see so many talented individuals in the caregiving community,” she adds.
Cultural Connection and Family Support
Ruchika’s journey has been profoundly influenced by her family’s unwavering support. When she told her parents in India about entering the competition and representing her company, they were thrilled. Her parents even traveled to be with her for the event. “My father was so excited to watch me perform and was overjoyed to see me give an interview on Homecare’s Got Talent in English,” she says. “He felt so proud and gave me a kiss on the cheek, saying it was the first time someone from our family gave an interview in English.”
Brotherly Love and Support
A major pillar of Ruchika’s support system is her brother. For him, she is already a pop star and rock star. Using his savings, he bought her a speaker, mic, and all the accessories needed for busking. He also provides invaluable advice on performance aspects such as how to dress, get into the right mood, choose songs, and most importantly, keep a smile on her face while singing.
Balancing Career and Passion
Balancing a full-time job as a Home Care Assistant with her passion for singing is challenging, but Ruchika is determined.
“Life is too short to regret not pursuing your dreams,” she asserts.
She takes Indian classical lessons on her days off, practices vocals while riding her bike to work, and listens to music throughout the day using her AirPods.
“My brother is my biggest motivator. Whenever he sees a busker performing, he pushes me to join in and never miss an opportunity to sing,” she explains. “I follow my passion not just for myself but also for him. I can’t let him down.”
