Heritage Healthcare Bristol Goes the Extra Mile for Client During Dementia Action Week

Companionship and Joy: A Memorable Outing for FC, a Client Living with Dementia
Dementia Action Week is a time for us at Heritage Healthcare Bristol to reflect on the importance of providing exceptional care for individuals living with dementia. This year, we decided to go the extra mile and give one of our clients, FC, a special treat that would truly make his day.
Companionship: Creating Meaningful Connections
FC is a lovely gentleman who speaks only Portuguese. Understanding the significance of communication in his own language, we made it a priority to find someone who could converse with him comfortably. Enter Tamu, one of our compassionate care assistants from Zimbabwe, who accompanied FC on this memorable outing.
A Taste of Home: Nata & Co Delivers Portuguese Delights
Our destination was Nata & Co, a charming Portuguese bakery and café located in Clifton, Bristol. Renowned for their mouth-watering Pastel de Nata, this place seemed like the perfect spot to create a memorable experience for FC. As we arrived, the staff at Nata & Co warmly welcomed FC, engaging him in conversation and sharing laughter and jokes in his native language. It was heart-warming to witness how special this made him feel, and he truly relished the attention. Over plenty of pastries and coffee, FC enjoyed the flavours of Portugal, immersing himself in the tastes and aromas that reminded him of home.
Reluctant Farewell: A Delightful Outing Comes to an End
As the afternoon drew to a close, we arranged for a taxi to take us back to Bradley Stoke, with FC holding onto some pastries to enjoy later. It was evident from his reluctance to leave the taxi that he had thoroughly enjoyed this delightful outing.
Celebrating Extraordinary Care: Tamu, the Bright Smile Behind the Scenes
We extend our special thanks to Tamu, our kind-hearted care assistant from Zimbabwe, whose bright smile and engaging personality provided invaluable support during FC’s outing. It is individuals like Tamu who make our care services truly exceptional, going above and beyond to bring comfort and happiness to our clients.
Embracing Joy Amidst Challenges: Our Approach to Dementia Care
Living with Dementia: A Challenging Journey of Hope
Living with dementia can be a challenging journey, but at Heritage Healthcare Bristol, we understand that the condition does not define a person’s entire existence. As the Alzheimer’s Society advises, the way individuals with dementia feel and experience life goes beyond their condition alone. Dementia may present its obstacles, but with the right support and care, individuals can continue to find moments of joy and connection.
Person-Centred Care: Focusing on What Brings Joy
We are dedicated to training our carers to provide comprehensive support, ensuring that those living with dementia feel valued and included. Through our person-centred approach to care, we focus on what can still be enjoyed rather than dwelling on what has been lost. Everyone we support is unique, and we strive to create personalised care plans that cater to their specific needs, preferences, and abilities. By recognising and embracing the aspects of life that bring joy and fulfilment, we can make a real difference in the lives of those living with dementia.
