Heritage Healthcare Basildon Engages With the Local Community at The Big Lunch
POSTED: 14/11/2025
Heritage Healthcare Basildon joined families across Thurrock at The Community Big Lunch, connecting with residents and raising awareness of care services through summer events packed with activities.
Building Community Connections Through Summer Events
This summer, Heritage Healthcare Basildon actively participated in The Community Big Lunch, a series of vibrant family-friendly events that brought together residents across Thurrock throughout late July and August. These gatherings represented an important opportunity for us to connect with the communities we serve, meet local families face-to-face, and share information about the care and support services available to residents.
The events took place across eight locations throughout the borough, including South Ockendon, East Tilbury, Tilbury, Purfleet-on-Thames, Chadwell St Mary, Blackshots (Grays), Aveley, and Corringham. Each afternoon, from 12pm to 4pm, local parks and recreational spaces transformed into hubs of activity, entertainment, and community spirit.
What Made The Community Big Lunch Special
The beauty of The Community Big Lunch lay in its accessibility and inclusivity. Organised by Thurrock Council in partnership with local organisations, these free events removed barriers to participation, ensuring that every family could attend regardless of circumstances. The initiative recognised that community wellbeing extends beyond individual health to encompass social connection, shared experiences, and collective celebration.
A Diverse Programme of Activities
Each event offered something for everyone. Families could enjoy creative workshops, live entertainment performances, sporting activities, and engaging games. The variety ensured that children of all ages found activities to capture their interest, whilst adults had opportunities to relax, socialise, and connect with neighbours and local organisations.
The atmosphere at each location buzzed with energy as children explored bouncy castles, participated in arts and crafts, and engaged in team sports. Meanwhile, live music provided a festive backdrop, and face painting stations created queues of excited youngsters eager for transformation.
Heritage Healthcare Basildon’s Community Presence
Why We Participated
Our presence at The Community Big Lunch reflected a fundamental belief: quality care services flourish when providers understand and engage with their local communities. These events offered invaluable opportunities to step beyond our usual service delivery and meet residents in relaxed, informal settings.
We attended with several clear objectives:
- Introducing Heritage Healthcare Basildon to families who might benefit from our services
- Building awareness of home care options available within the local area
- Listening to community members about their care needs and concerns
- Demonstrating our commitment to supporting Thurrock residents
- Establishing ourselves as an accessible, approachable local organisation
Conversations That Matter
Throughout the events, our team engaged in countless meaningful conversations with residents. Some families were already familiar with home care services, having supported elderly relatives or knowing friends who had. Others were learning about care options for the first time, gathering information for future needs.
These interactions proved invaluable. We gained insights into specific concerns facing Thurrock families, from supporting ageing parents whilst managing work commitments to understanding respite care options. Each conversation helped us better appreciate the real-world challenges our community faces and how our services might provide solutions.
The Importance of Community Engagement
Strengthening Local Networks
Events like The Community Big Lunch serve a purpose far beyond entertainment. They strengthen the social fabric of neighbourhoods, creating networks of support that benefit everyone, particularly vulnerable residents who might otherwise experience isolation.
For care providers like Heritage Healthcare Basildon, participating in community events demonstrates our investment in local wellbeing. We’re present during the good times, the celebrations, and the ordinary moments that define community life. This presence builds trust and familiarity, making it easier for families to reach out when care needs arise.
Understanding Community Needs
Direct engagement with residents provides intelligence that no amount of research can replicate. Through casual conversations at community events, we learn about:
- Transport challenges affecting healthcare access
- Gaps in local support services
- Concerns about care quality and reliability
- Cultural preferences for care delivery
- Financial anxieties surrounding care costs
This knowledge shapes how we develop and deliver our services, ensuring they align with genuine community needs rather than assumptions.
Looking Forward
Our participation in The Community Big Lunch reinforced our commitment to being an active, visible presence within Thurrock. We recognise that excellent care provision requires more than clinical expertise; it demands understanding, accessibility, and genuine community connection.
As we continue supporting families across Basildon and the wider Thurrock area, we remain dedicated to initiatives that bring us closer to residents. Whether through community events, local partnerships, or everyday service delivery, Heritage Healthcare Basildon strives to be a trusted, reliable presence that residents can turn to with confidence.
Continuing the Conversation
If you met us at any of The Community Big Lunch events, or if you’d like to learn more about the care services we provide, we’d love to hear from you. Supporting our local community means being available, approachable, and ready to help when needs arise.
The success of The Community Big Lunch demonstrated the strength and vitality of Thurrock’s communities. We’re proud to serve these neighbourhoods and look forward to many more opportunities to connect, support, and celebrate alongside the residents who make this area special.
