Between 11th – 17th June, supporters and communities across the country will come together to bring more awareness to those who care for a loved one, whether they are a parent, partner, child or friend.
Around 6.5 million people are carers in the UK, many of who don’t consider themselves to be carers and just simply looking after a relative. Becoming someone’s carer can be a rewarding choice to make, but comes with huge responsibilities. A Carer’s own health needs can be put on hold, with focus on physical and mental health reducing.
This year, Carers Week will be dedicated to the health and well-being of carers and sign-posting to helpful services and resources. Carers have told the Carers Week charities that they need more information, practical support and advice to care for their loved ones without risking their own health, including access to respite support so they can feel refreshed and maintain a life of their own.
At Heritage Healthcare, we will be supporting Carers Week by sharing information about being an unpaid carer and telling you how we can help with our respite services. Keep an eye out this month on our website and social media, and show your support for UK Carers by visiting the Carers Week website here.
