Dementia Support: How Heritage Healthcare Can Help

Staying at home for longer with the right support can help those living with the effects of dementia.

Dementia Support: How Heritage Healthcare Can Help

Those living with the effects of dementia may need extra support as the condition progresses. Many family members become primary carers, but for others, full-time work and family commitments can mean they can often be worried about a family member who has dementia.

At Heritage Healthcare, we provide dedicated home care and support services to help more people remain living independently in the comfort of their own home. Our care packages are bespoke to everyone, working with clients, family members and healthcare professionals to create a care plan unique to the client’s needs.

We support clients living with dementia and their loved ones, adapting care plans as and when needed. Our care team are highly trained in different areas of care and are there to support everyone affected the dementia. Our dementia support plans can include:

Personal care – in some progressive stages of dementia, extra support may be needed with personal care. At Heritage Healthcare, we are registered with the Care Quality Commission, meaning we follow specific guidelines to provide personal care. This could include washing, grooming and dressing, incontinence care, eating and drinking, and supporting with prescribed medications. Our care team treat every individual with the utmost respect, delivering support in a dignified manner to ensure comfort and trust.

Household and domestic help – sometimes, all that is needed is someone to help keep the home tidy. Our care team can provide household help with vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, changing bed linen, towels and laundry. They also help with weekly grocery shopping so there is always food in the cupboards.

Companionship – it’s reassuring just knowing a friendly face is popping in to see your loved ones when you are unable to. Our care teams can visit for a cup of tea and keep client’s company, having a chat about recent news and reminiscing about the past. Memory and communication can be affected by different forms of dementia, so our team of dedicated carers can support clients with clear and encouraging conversation, without putting pressure on them. They can accompany clients out and about, whether it’s a visit to the local shops, a walk around the park or attending an activity, so clients can continue living independently within their community.

Respite care – we don’t just support clients living with dementia; we support their loved ones too, including their primary carers. Our respite care service allows primary carers to have some much-needed time to themselves. We work with you to continue the care routine already in place, whether it’s for a couple of hours a week or weeks at a time.

Our care packages can be adapted to suit the needs, wishes and requirements of clients. No one should face dementia alone, and we are here to support everyone affected by dementia.
