A Trip to LegoLand
POSTED: 29/07/2024
Recently, we had the pleasure of helping Mrs. H, a 45-year-old lady from Norfolk, fulfil her dream of visiting Legoland.
Mrs. H, a 45-year-old lady, travelled from Norfolk to Windsor specifically to visit Legoland, a renowned theme park in England. She sourced our company online and chose to enquire after reading such positive reviews.
It was our pleasure to support and quite honestly a day that we were very much looking forward to being part of too.
Objective
Mrs H required support for the day to mobilise around the park, reduce her anxiety of unfamiliar environments and noisy surroundings. The outcome was to ensure Mrs H had a fun filled day, exploring the park in a safe and friendly atmosphere regardless of anything holding her back. She presented us with a list of rides she wanted to go on and we were ready on-hand to make it happen!
With this in mind, we conducted the necessary risk assessments, Mrs H arranged for a rented wheelchair when she arrived to Legoland and we got hold of a map prior to the day so Mrs H could plan where she would like to go, to help reduce any anxiety. Mrs H was given the choice of which carer to attend the day with her, following a review of carer profiles that were available for the date.
The primary objective was to provide Mrs. H with the necessary support to navigate and enjoy Legoland. This included physical assistance with the wheelchair, emotional reassurance, and facilitating her participation in various activities and attractions within the park.
Support Provided
Mobility Assistance: The carer pushed Mrs. H wheelchair throughout the hilly pathways of the park, ensuring smooth navigation through crowds and to various attractions.
Emotional and Social Support: The carer engaged Mrs. H with light-hearted conversations and humour, providing continuous reassurance and companionship to help manage her anxiety in crowded and noisy situations. During their two-hour lunch, Mrs. H shared details about her life and her cat, Chica, fostering a strong bond and emotional support.
Activity Facilitation: The carer actively participated in the rides and games alongside Mrs. H, ensuring accessibility and shared enjoyment. Mrs. H felt really happy after attempting to win a game and was particularly amazed by the virtual reality experience.
Experience and Itinerary: Mrs. H had meticulously planned the outing, including perfect timings of the rides and information about entry and exit points. They started from the back of the theme park and moved towards the front, beginning with the virtual reality experience, followed by a 3D game, a pirate show, lunch, and other rides.
Challenges and Solutions
Crowd Navigation: The park was busy, but the carer managed to efficiently navigate through the crowds, ensuring Mrs. H safety and comfort.
Hilly Pathways: The park’s hilly terrain presented a challenge, but the carer managed to push the wheelchair efficiently.
Anxiety Management: The carer avoided busy areas to prevent anxiety and refrained from going on roller coasters, which Mrs. H chose to go on.
Outcome
Mrs. H had a fulfilling and enjoyable day at Legoland. Feedback from Mrs. H highlighted her appreciation for the carer support and companionship, which significantly enhanced her experience. Furthermore, Mrs H’s anxiety was well-managed with the carer’s presence, allowing her to enjoy the day without significant distress. The one-off service successfully met Mrs. H’s needs, providing her with a memorable visit to the theme park. At the end of the day Mrs H stated
“I had a brilliant day at Legoland and was really happy with the care provided.”
