Know Your Numbers Week 2020 – You Are In Control

Every September, the Know Your Numbers campaign launched to raise awareness of high blood pressure.

In normal circumstances, the Know Your Numbers campaign encourages individuals to visit their local ‘Pressure Station’ to have their blood pressure checked. However, due to social distancing measures, the pressure stations will not be set up this year. Instead, the nation is encouraged to monitor their blood pressure from home and to understand the effects of high blood pressure.

The theme for this year’s Know Your Numbers campaign is “You are in control” to help more people take the pressure off the NHS and feel more confident with their health.

A third of the UK population has high blood pressure, but many are unaware and can go undiagnosed. High blood pressure has no symptoms but can lead to strokes, heart attacks or other serious illnesses. Checking your blood pressure from the safety of your own home can help you take control of your health and to take the necessary steps to bring blood pressure down to a healthy level.

This month, we will be sharing information about the effects of high blood pressure and our tips on keeping it to a steady level. By keeping track of your blood pressure and ‘knowing your numbers’ you can make the right changes to your lifestyle to keep yourself healthy and prevent possible diseases caused by high blood pressure.
