Do You Know Your Numbers?

Young woman checking her blood pressure for know your numbers week

This year sees the 21st anniversary of Know Your Numbers Week. The theme this September is focusing on the “forgotten pandemic of high blood pressure”. Know Your Numbers is a national campaign by Blood Pressure UK that aims to raise awareness of high blood pressure. Every September during the campaign, we like to encourage people to monitor their blood pressure to help people ‘know their numbers’.

Home blood pressure monitoring can help you take control of your blood pressure effectively and inexpensively, whilst taking the pressure off the NHS and giving you peace of mind. At-home blood pressure machines can help you improve your lifestyle and feel more confident with your health. Home monitoring kits are easily accessible at most local pharmacies.

In the UK around 1 in 3 adults has high blood pressure. Many of them aren’t aware of it which makes them more at risk of health complications. Persistent high blood pressure can have serious implications on your health. High blood pressure is a leading cause of heart attacks and strokes. High blood pressure can also cause issues such as kidney disease, vascular dementia, and heart failure. So it’s important to check it regularly and let your GP know if you’re prone to high results.
